Our Story
Welcome to The Artisan’s Garden - a place born from passion, creativity, and community.
What began as a quiet dream in 2006 inside a former salon and spa has blossomed into a beloved gathering spot where nature, art, and connection flourish. For years, I envisioned using our space in new and meaningful ways, turning a simple vision board filled with gardening dreams into the vibrant garden center, coffee bar, and boutique you see today.
My love of plants and creativity has always been at the heart of this journey. With invaluable insight from Mackenzie, whose barista expertise helped shape our cozy coffee corner, and the steadfast support of my family - my husband’s skilled hands bringing renovations to life, my son Gord and daughters Shelby and Mackenzie working tirelessly behind the scenes - we have built something deeply personal and ever-evolving. Even our grandchildren find joy in lending a hand during busy project days, making Artisan’s Garden truly a labor of love spanning generations.
In the early days, while still cutting hair upstairs, I often found myself longing to be down in the garden, inspired by its beauty and endless potential. Those moments solidified my belief that this was the path meant for me - the perfect blend of business leadership, creativity, and community service.
Every January brings new growth and change, from expanding our space to transforming our greenhouse into an event venue, reflecting our commitment to evolve alongside the needs and dreams of our community.
At Artisan’s Garden, connection is the root of everything. Growing alongside Sooke since 1996, our family and business are woven into the fabric of this town. We cherish the friendships, the volunteers, and the customers who make this more than a shop - it’s a welcoming home for neighbours, families, and visitors alike. We uphold values of respect, safety, and inclusivity, ensuring that every person who walks through our doors feels valued and at peace.
What brings me the most joy is watching my daughters take pride in their roles, sharing fresh ideas and seeing them come to fruition. Shelby and Mackenzie’s ownership and enthusiasm inspire me every day.
The changing seasons thrill me, especially March, when the anticipation of new plants and the buzz of community excitement fills the air. The Made Market remains a special highlight, celebrating the talent and heart of local artisans who inspire us all.
Despite challenges, including the transition away from the salon and the pandemic’s trials, our resilience shines. Today, after revitalizing our historic building, Artisan’s Garden stands strong and more vibrant than ever.
We’re proud to be a safe, inclusive destination that supports sustainability, local artistry, and belonging. By providing space for connection, creativity, and growth, we hope to enrich Sooke and welcome visitors to experience the magic we love.
Step into The Artisan’s Garden and discover a place where every visit feels like coming home - a space to unwind, connect, and be inspired by the possibilities of growth, both in the garden and beyond.
With loving kindness,
Gwen
